About two weeks ago, Epic released a project I had been working on as a QA for about 4 months called the The Matrix Awakens. This project showcases some of the amazing new technology that can be found in the new iteration of Unreal. You can check out the official website here: https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/wakeup.
Some of the features you will be able to play with include our real-time global illumination system called Lumen. Players can adjust the position of the sun during gameplay and observe changes to the environment without any load times. This even includes a day and night toggle! Players can cycle through different rendering filters that demonstrate Nanite, our virtualized geometry system that hopes to make polycount concerns a thing of the past. Lastly, an entire open-world city bustling with Metahumans can be explored, complete with an introductory action sequence featuring Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss rendered in lifelike detail.

You can download The Matrix Awakens for play on Xbox Series X or S and PlayStation 5! Sad there isn't a PC version? Don't worry, we plan to give out all the non-licensed assets for use in Unreal Engine 5 as part of a new upcoming sample package. Developers will be able to learn how the demo was made, and create their own city!
